PRO AND CONTRAThe principal of Eden Hill High School has asked the School Council to look at the issue of continuing
to run the school canteen. The council has interviewed many students, teachers, and parents and
summarized the views pro and contra below.
Those who are pro the continuation of the school canteen give two reasons. The first
advantage of having the school canteen is that students can enjoy the canteen lunch. With the
provision of lunch by the canteen, parents do not have to get up early in the morning to prepare the
meal for their children for having lunch at school. The other benefit of the school canteen deals with
school financial matter. The school can get extra money from the profit obtained by the canteen.
The money can be used for buying learning tools and other devices needed. Therefore, the quality of
learning in the school can be improved.
On the contrary, the others do not agree with the existence of the school canteen. The first
reason relates to cleanliness. Ice cream and other food wrappers litter school compound. This
deteriorates school environment. Besides, the school canteen causes parents to expense more. Their
children demand their parents to buy them lunch more often than they can afford.
