A forest is an area with a high density of trees (or, historcally, an area set aside for hunting). It is a community of trees, shrubs, herbs, microorganism, and animals. The most abvious living structures in a forest are trees. Generally, a forest contains a large number of different tree species growing to different heights. The trees take part in natural processes of nutrients cycling and water purification. They also helpe maintain a clean environment. They help to retain water, so heavy rain don’t run rapidly off forest land. There numerous types of forests. Among them are rain forest, taigas, temperate hardwood forestand tropical dry forest. There are two categories of forest uses, i.e. non – consumptive and consumptive. Non-consumptive uses include water shed protection, wildlife and fish habitat, recreation and aesthetic uses. Consumptive uses involve the extraction of product. It often requires the harvesting of trees to obtain wood, chemical and other product.
