Sansivieria (Sanseviera trifasciata) is also known as the snake plant

Berikut ini adalah pertanyaan dari GHOSTSTAR7 pada mata pelajaran B. inggris untuk jenjang Sekolah Menengah Pertama

Sansivieria (Sanseviera trifasciata) is also known as the snake plant or mother-in- law's tongue. It is one of the most popular and hardy species of houseplants. Sansiviera is a member of the Asparagacea family- a relative family of garden asparagus. Sansivieria generally can be divided into two basic categories based on the leaves: hard-leaves and soft-leaves. The hard-leaves are well-suited to desert environment and has thick, succulent leaves for storing water, while the soft-leaves grow in tropical/subtropical environment and has wide and strap-like shape. The flowers are usually greenish-white, also rose, lilac-red, brownish, produced on a simple or branched raceme. The fruit is a red or orange berry. In nature, they are pollinated by moths, but both flowering and fruiting are erratic and few seeds are produced. A flowered shoot will no longer produce new leaves. Unlike plants which die after flowering, a bloomed shoot will simply cease to produce new leaves. The flowered shoot continues to grow by producing plantlets via its rhizomes or stolons.

Plants can be propagated by seed, leaf-cutting, and division. Seeds are rarely used, as plants can normally be grown much faster from cuttings or divisions. As many cultivars are periclinal chimeras, they do not come true to type from leaf cuttings, and therefore must be propagated by rhizome division to retain the variegation.

Sansevierias helps purifying air by removing some toxins from the air. They absorb carbon dioxide at night and release oxygen during daylight. Nighttime absorption of carbon dioxide makes them suitable for bedroom plants. However, since the leaves are potentially poisonous if ingested, they are not usually recommended for children's bedrooms.
