Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. It is such a great honor to be standing here in front of all of you to give a speech on how importance to seek knowledge is. As we all already know, seeking knowledge is important, but why is it important? First of all, I would like you to imagine what this world would be without the electricity. Some of you probably cannot imagine it. It is okay, because electricity has become a part of our lives. It plays significant role in our lives as well. Many important devices and technologies rely on it to function. We even get mad when the power goes out for only few hours. I dare to say that modern people like us will not survive without it.

Ladies and gentlemen, did you know that electricity was discovered with the involvement of knowledge? Of course people who discovered it did not know about it at first. However, they kept observing and experimenting on it until they obtain understanding about it. Hence, they successfully discovered and invented the electricity that we know today. Knowledge offers ways to any discovery, invention, and exploration. Knowledge can literally light up our world.

Knowledge can also help us in improving our personality. It shapes our point of view of looking at life. It also helps us to overcome obstacles in a proper and good way. Francis Bacon once said, “Knowledge is a power”. We humans are not physically the strongest creatures in this world. Yet we dominate this world. It is because we are intelligent. The knowledge that we have and the ability to act on knowledge allow us to have more power than any animal whose body is stronger than us. That is why we must keep seeking knowledge to be a better and stronger person.

One thing that is great about knowledge is that it is not exclusively given through formal education only. It is not always about lessons in textbooks, but lessons of life. We can seek knowledge through anything without time limit as knowledge gain itself is a lifelong process. It leads us to the right path and gives us an opportunity to live a wonderful life. There is no excuse for us to stop seeking knowledge, for knowledge can be a key to make the world a better place to live in. Therefore, not only knowledge can literally light up our world, but also figuratively light up our world.

Ladies and gentlemen, to end this speech I would like to quote a proverb that is said by Socrates, “The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing”. We must keep learning and seeking knowledge as we basically do not know everything. Thank you very much.
