Cause and Effect

Cause (sebab) merupakan penyebab mengapa sesuatu dapat terjadi.

Effect (akibat) adalah hasil dari apa yang telah terjadi.

Cause dan Effect sangat berkaitan satu sama lain. "If there is an effect, there must be a cause. If there is a cause, that could lead to effects."

Dalam membuat kalimat cause and effect, diperlukan conjunction (kata hubung), seperti: because, since, as, so, for, therefore.

Contoh:

• He was angry because we were late.
• It is raining heavily outside, so I can't come to your party.
• Since you can speak English, you have many friends from other countries.
• Tasya can't go to school today for she is unwell.
• The boss was happy as John did the work very well.
• The school is under construction, therefore I don't go to school today.

• As she ate too much, she got a stomachache.
• She got a stomachache for she ate too much.

3. Cause: I ran out of money.

Effect: I was not able buy gasoline on the way home.

Sentence:

• Since I ran out of money, I was not able to buy gasoline on the way home.
• I was not able to buy gasoline on the way home because I ran out of money.

4. Cause: He is afraid to fly

Effect: He can't go abroad.

Sentence:

• He can't go abroad since he is afraid to fly.
• He is afraid to fly, therefore, he can't go abroad.

5. Cause : After the car accident.

Effect: John drives more carefully.

Sentence:

• Since the car accident, John drives more carefully.
• John drives more carefully since the car accident.
