Television makes them lazy, wastes time, and can also promote aggressive behavior. In my opinion, too much television watching leads to children becoming lazy, both physically and mentally. Rather than becoming involved in a range of leisure activities such as bike riding or ball sports, children instead remain at home peering at a television screen. Many people believe that they need to participate in more physical activities which, consequently, will increas cardiovascular fitness and improve their coordination. Watching television does not promote either of these things.
It is not educational as it usually does not encourage children to think at all. Therefore, children need to decrease their television watching time, as it is not of any educational value. Although television is entertaining, it is not educational because it encourages people to waste time. Children often prefer to watch television when they come home from school. Doing this stops them from doing their homework, which stops them from thinking. Often, they want to stay up late and watch something on television. This can lead to them going to bed late, which in turn can lead to lethargy at school. For this reason, it is difficult to state that television is educational.
Another important reason to support the view that it is not educational is the fact that increased television watching can result in aggressive behavior. Many shows depict popular characters as angry, violent, and aggressive. These attributes are not ideal for children to see as they often transfer what they see on television into their own life. Many children have also learned coarse words from the television. This type of learning is not positive and creates a society full of actions and language that promote aggression. I believe that television has no educational value and that the fewer children watch it the better. To summarize, I concur with the view that television is not educational as it makes children lazy, wastes time, and promotes aggressive behavior.
