THE GEMS UNDER THE SADDLE OF THE CAMELOnce upon a time, a merchant who was walking in the market, found a good camel that was being sold. The merchant and seller of the camels, both skilled negotiators, strike hard bargains. Finally the camel seller, pleased with his skills, secured what he thought was a very good price, and parted ways with his camel. Satisfied with having secured such a fantastic deal, the merchant proudly walked home with his camel, the newest addition to his ranch. When he got home, the merchant ordered his servant to unsaddle the camel. With some difficulty, the maid untied the heavy saddle alone. Upon removing it, the maid found a small velvet pouch under the saddle, which turned out to be filled with precious gems! The maid exclaimed excitedly, "Sir, sir bought a camel... but look what comes with it for free!"
The merchant was amazed when he saw the jewelry in the palm of his servant's hand. The jewels were of extraordinary quality, sparkling and twinkling in the sun. "I bought the camel," he said, "not with the jewels. I must return them to the camel seller immediately." The maid was aghast or shocked and thought that master is really stupid. "Master, no one will ever know." But the merchant immediately returned to the market and handed back the velvet pouch to the camel seller. The camel seller was very happy, "I forgot that I hid this jewelery in the saddle." "Please choose one of the gems as a reward." The merchant said, "I bought the camels and paid a fair price for the camels only, so NO thank you, I don't need anything in return." The merchant refused, but the camel seller insisted. Finally the merchant said with a smile, "Actually when I decided to bring the pouch back to you, I had already taken and kept the two most precious gems." The camel seller was somewhat flabbergasted by the admission, quickly emptying his pockets to count the gems. However she was very confused, "All my jewelery is here. What jewelery did you keep? " The two most valuable," said the merchant, "INTEGRITY and SELF-RESPECT."
