Simple Past Tense

When I was in the seventh grade, my friends and I liked to try new recipes and practiced cooking together. We did it in turns at our houses.

One day, we made fried rice together at Jumi’s house. Her mother allowed use to use her kitchen to cook together. We cooked happily and confidently, in turns added ingredients to the fried rice.

When it was done and we tasted it, it was too salty! Moreover, it was a bit burnt. We were disappointed. Then, we put the fried rice on a big plate and put it on a short stool. Jumi decided to ask her mother what we had to do with the fried rice.

Suddenly, Jumi’s little sister entered the kitchen, running. She was playing hide and seek with her friends. She didn’t notice that there was plate of fried rice on the stool, hit and all the rice fell to the ground.

Jumi’s sister felt guilty of what happened. Luckily, Jumi’s mother was there. She calmed the girl and said to us, “I know you are disappointed. However, I will treat you today.”

We were happy with her offer. We had a good lunch at a popular food stall near Jumi’s house.
