Descriptive text is a text which describes person/place/animal and other things specifically.

SOCIAL FUNCTION/COMMUNICATIVE PURPOSE

=> to describe people/place/things specifically

GENERIC STRUCTURE  

1.  Identification  

• Identification is the very beginning part of paragraph. It tells about the background, the introduction of who, what,  which will be described in the text.

2. Description

• Description contains the quality or specific character which belongs to the things you are talking about.  

LANGUAGE FEATURE

• It refers to the specific participants to identify which the thing/the person is.

Exp => Borobudur temple, Toba lake

• It uses the adjective more to explain the noun in detail.

Exp => green, shady, famous

• It uses the simple present tense because it tells the fact or general truth

Exp => the trees produce the fresh air, my school has many rooms

• It uses the action verbs to reveal the activity

Exp => play, study, guard

Example of descriptive text about the place

My name is Dew Barrymore. I’m thirteen years old. I study at SMPN I “Brainly Nuansa Indah.” My school is elite and very famous in my town. Many students come from different regions to study in this school. ( IDENTIFICATION ) => This first paragraph declares the introduction of the place.  

My school is green and shady. There are many variety of plants and flowers. The trees produce the fresh air all over the school building and it makes more comfortable to stay. My school has many rooms . There are a spacious library , a large parking shade, a headmaster’s office, school canteens, language laboratories, science laboratories, multimedia rooms, toilets, a hall and twenty rooms for seventh grade class until ninth grade class. My school’s yard is very large. It is in front of the ninth grade classes. We can play kinds of sport games in the school’s yard. My school has complete sport equipment  because my school provides the sport clubs to train for those who are talented in the sport game.  ( DESCRIPTION )

When we enter the school,   we will see the greeting billboard which is written “Welcome to SMPN I “Brainly Nuansa Indah”  in front of the school building gate. There is a security post beside the gate. There are two securities  who guard the post. They have responsibility to keep our school safe. That is a story about my school. I love my school very much because of its conducive environment. ( DESCRIPTION )
