Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. (H.C) Puan Maharani expressed her concern over the eruption of Mount Semeru in Lumajang Regency, East Java Province on Saturday (4/12/2021) afternoon. He also asked the government and related agencies to prioritize saving residents.

"We express our deep concern to the residents of East Java, especially Lumajang Regency, which is being hit by a volcanic eruption. We hope that there will be no casualties due to the eruption of Mount Semeru," said Puan, Saturday (4/12/2021). Puan asked the government to immediately carry out an emergency response.

The PDI-Perjuangan politician emphasized the local government to optimize coordination with BPBD, TNI/Polri and various other institutions/agencies. "Prioritize saving residents affected by the volcanic eruption, especially for residents around Mount Semeru who are trapped around their homes and have not managed to save themselves," said the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK).

Residents of the village of Curah Kobokan, Lumajang, who are on the slopes of Mount Semeru, are reported to be in need of assistance. Residents who did not have time to leave the village when the eruption occurred are now sheltering in the mosque and needing evacuation because they are trapped in lava. "Use the potential of the nearest SAR team to help evacuate residents. This must be a priority, considering that residents living around the slopes of Semeru do not bring anything when they try to save themselves," said Puan.
