Fonemadalah sebuah istilah kebahasaan yang menunjukkanperbedaan bunyi, perbedaan bunyi tersebut dapat mengakibatkan perbedaan makna pula, seperti halnya yang kita temukan pada latihan soal di atas, banyak kita dapati suatu kata yang pengucapan yang berbeda dengan huruf aslinya. Seperti contohnya huruf c dan k, terkadang huruf c dilafadzkan sebagaimana huruf k namun terkadang juga dilafadzkan seperti huruf c pada aslinya.

Adapun soal pada nomor 2 juga terkait tentang fonem, huruf f dan huruf v adalah dua huruf yang tempat keluarnya sama yakni di antara dua bibir, mungkin dalam bahasa Indonesia kedua huruf tersebut terdengar samar namun dalam bahasa Inggris kedua huruf tersebut dapat dibedakan dengan jelas.

Huruf F dalam bahasa Inggris termasuk huruf yang tidak bersuara atau unvoiced, artinya adalah hanya hembusan nafas yang melalui mulut keluar bibir, berbeda dengan huruf v yang melibatkan penekanan bibir atau lidah untuk menghasilkan suaranya.
