WACANA IIWhile there are many things to appreciate and celebrate about the world attention. In a study published by the World Resources Institute, the United in which we live, many pressing environmental problems cry out for our Nations, and the World Bank in September 2000, more than 175 scientists assessed the health of global ecosystems. They discovered a widespread decline in the ability of ecosystems to produce the goods and services on which we currently depend. They found, for instance, that half of the world's wetlands were lost in the last 100 years, while logging and land conversion have shrunk the world's forests by as much as half. Twenty three-quarters of the world's major marine fish stocks are overfished or are being harvested beyond a sustainable rate, and soil degradation has affected two-thirds of the world's agricultural lands in the last 50 years. The main cause of this environmental degradation is that human populations grew at alarming rates in the last century.
