Nuclear power has many benefits for producing energy from nuclear reactors. Environmentally its impact is very little. The power generated from nuclear power, which is a green energy, does not contribute any emissions to the atmosphere. It is quite different with the fossil fuels that generate greenhouse gasses and poisonous elements which can lead to ozone problems, acid rain, and global warming. Nuclear power is relatively inexpensive compared with other types of energy. Uranium, which is the raw fuel, is less expensive than oil, natural gas, or coal. It lowers electricity costs for consumers. Nuclear power is also a reliable source of power. The nuclear power plants produce large amounts of power on a consistent basis.
However, there are also dangers and risks involved in using nuclear power. The preeminent limitation in using nuclear power is how to dispose or store nuclear waste. Radiation that is leaked from spent rods that lose the ability to produce heat could lead to a dangerous scenario. It takes thousands of years for radiation to be extinguished. The radioactive waste also must be contained to remain safe. Disposal of radioactive waste is a concern as landfills damage the environment. Radiation can be easily spread by winds. It It can contaminate large areas. After a reactor melts it stays in an area for many years and that radioactivity also remains. is dangerous to humans and animals alike.
It is obvious that nuclear energy should be avoided because it really endangers the environment but what about a less polluted energy instead of nuclear energy. Is there any alternative energy to overcome the crisis of energy? In my opinion, nuclear energy is the best choice to overcome the crisis of energy. However, government should make sure that nuclear reactor’s construction and maintains are safe.
