Sangkuriang was the son of Dayang Sumbi, a princess who married a dog named Tumang, who was actually a man cursed by a witch. Sangkuriang grew up to be a powerful man and returned to his village, where he fell in love with Dayang Sumbi, not realizing that she was his mother. Dayang Sumbi accepted Sangkuriang's proposal to marry her, but gave him an impossible task: to build a lake and a boat in one night. With the help of genies, Sangkuriang completed the lake but was unable to finish the boat before dawn, at which point the genies left and Dayang Sumbi revealed the truth to Sangkuriang.
