Long time a go, in a village near the beach in Sumatra, lived a mother and her son named Malin Kundang. They lived in a hunt and they were very poor. Malin wanted to be a rich and successful man, he decided to sail overseas to find a job. At first, his mother did not let him go, but Malin convinced his mother to let him go with one condition that Malin will return home to his mother. Long story short, Malin became a rich and successful man. He has a beautiful wife and lots of servants. One day, his ship docked in Malin's hometown. His mother heard that his son back to the village and run to see him. Unfortunately, Malin was embarrassed and did not want to admit that the poor woman is his mother. He ordered his servants to chase her away. Here, his mother got disappointed and angry, then she cursed Malin into stone.
