Berikut ini adalah pertanyaan dari sitiarlianiazizah28 pada mata pelajaran B. inggris untuk jenjang Sekolah Menengah Atas

There were two giants who were rivals but had never met in person. They were the Scotish Giant, Benandonner, and his rival from Northern Ireland, Finn McCool. One day, Benandonner shouted insults at Finn across the narrow sea channel. He threw a rock at Finn and it made Finn very angry. Finn lifted huge stones from the beach. He threw the stones into the sea to make a causeway. It would mean that Benandonner could come to him. However, Finn was very tired after finishing making the causeway. He saw the size of Benandonner and decided not to fight him because it was not a good idea. Instead, he thought of a clever plan and asked his wife, Oonagh, to disguise him as a baby in a cot.

When Benandonner came to confront Finn, Oonagh told Benandonner that her husband was away hunting. She showed Benandonner their son who was sleeping in the cot.

Benandonner became very frightened when he saw the huge baby. He thought that if the baby was that big, his father must be enormous. Finally, Benandonner ran back along the causeway that Fiin had built. He broke the causeway as he went.

Jawaban dan Penjelasan

Berikut ini adalah pilihan jawaban terbaik dari pertanyaan diatas.

Jawaban:

1. What is the orientation (setting of time, place and characters) of the story?

The story is set in a time long ago, in Scotland and Northern Ireland. The characters are Finn McCool, a giant from Northern Ireland, his rival, Benandonner, a Scottish giant, Finn's wife, Oonagh, and their son.

2. What is the complication (the problem) of the story?

The complication in the story is when Benandonner insults Finn, throws a rock at him, and challenges him to fight. Finn, instead of fighting, decides to trick Benandonner into thinking he's a baby to avoid a confrontation.

3. Have Benandonner met Finn?

The story doesn't specify if Benandonner and Finn have met in person before. However, they are described as rivals who shout insults at each other across the sea channel.

4. Why did Benandoner become very frightened?

Benandonner becomes frightened when he sees Finn's son, who is actually Finn in disguise, because he assumes that if the "baby" is that big, then Finn must be even bigger and more powerful. He panics and runs back across the causeway he came from, breaking it as he goes to prevent Finn from following him.

5. What is the resolution (end of the story)?

The resolution of the story is that Benandonner retreats, and the causeway that Finn built is broken, separating Northern Ireland and Scotland once again. The story implies that the rivalry between the two giants is settled for the time being, and they go back to their respective territories.
