Berikut ini adalah pertanyaan dari Aliyari pada mata pelajaran B. inggris untuk jenjang Sekolah Menengah Atas
(my)
(want)
(some)
Jawaban dan Penjelasan
Berikut ini adalah pilihan jawaban terbaik dari pertanyaan diatas.
Jawaban:
I would describe the difference as indefinite (any) vs definite (some) i.e.
Do you need any help? = compare this with indefinite: Do you need a pencil? (i.e. something to write with - not one particular pencil)
Do you need some help? = compare this with definite: Do you need the pencil? (i.e. a particular pencil - e.g. the blue one next to my book)
We use definite words to talk about things which both the speaker and the listener know about and which usually are in the same environment e.g.
An old lady cannot lift her bag onto the train. A young man says Do you need some help? - the old lady knows exactly what help he means (i.e. to lift the bag for her).
He could also correctly say Do you need any help? but in this case it is less certain how he might help her.
Penjelasan:
I heard people saying do you need any help ? but i thought the correct way of saying it was do you need some help ?
Also I heard the normal usage of "some" and "any" in questions is
- If the questioner is expecting the answer to be Yes, she will use "some".
- If the questioner has no expectations about whether the answer will be Yes or No, she will use "any".
so the answer:
My:Do you need my help?
Want:do you want any help?
some:do you need some help ?
