The statement above saying 'kindness is a quality that is gradually disappearing among us today' is only half true. It really depends on where you live or the society you live in.

If one refers to the life at the capital, such might be true. People in there have been treating anyone based one the shallow mindset of 'pain or gain'. It means whether making friends with this person would give me advantage (gain) or not (pain). Such can also be seen as a pragmatism way of life with money as the centre of their thinking. The hard life in the capital becomes worse when the politicians running the government tend to think the same way instead of being wise. Thus, the social gap as well as the quality of life is ruled by the possession of money.

However, if one lives in the smaller city or even the big city with less money-oriented society like Surabaya or Yogyakarta, the kindness does exist. Most people tend to show respect to others, help each other sincerely and treat friends like families as long as they show the same way of respect.

Therefore, kindness is not entirely disappearing among us today but only not as massively considered important as it used to be, especially at the capital or cities whose citizens have the money-oriented mindset. In some cities or even in the countryside, such trait still does exist.
