• It is a common practice in the movie industry to invite knowledgeable persons working in the media to preview new movies before their public release. These persons known as film critics are paid to communicate their opinions and evaluations to the public.
• Presumably, film critics have a significant influence on moviegoers' decisions to attend or not a new movie. This is why many studios try to target critics for getting favorable reviews and to avoid uncooperative critics. The belief in the power of film critics is consistent with the literature in consumer behavior showing that consumers commonly gather information from expert sources in order to reduce uncertainty, form evaluations and make better decisions. Some researches had been done to evaluate the relevance of this belief in the case of movies which are highly visible and very popular experiential products. This research has shown that although film critics are not the most infiuential information sources used by moviegoers, they do play a significant role in shaping their interest in attending movies.
