The story is about a King and his hobby of collecting new clothes. The collection of clothes is currently very large in several closets. He likes to buy new clothes at very high prices, especially for big celebrations in his kingdom. One day, the King was confused about what clothes to wear on the royal birthday to come
Finally, the King summoned the Prime Minister and asked to order a special dress so that during the celebration, all eyes would be on the King. The Prime Minister also held a contest, "Whoever can make the King a beautiful outfit will get a prize".
After that, came the brave young man to take up the challenge of the competition.
Hearing this, the King was happy. He also thought it would be very beautiful to wear clothes made of real gold. The King also gave orders to the Prime Minister to provide a spool of thread made of gold for the tailor.
The royal birthday is approaching. The king was eager to see his new clothes. Finally, he ordered the Prime Minister to inspect his new clothes.
"Prime Minister, go see the tailors to check out my new clothes!" the king's orders.
The tailor is still at work.
"This is the dress, sir. What do you think?" Asked the young man.
"As a wise person, you can definitely see this beautiful dress." The tailor's assistant said.
However, the Prime Minister looked confused. He couldn't see whatever the tailor's "clothes" were saying. Even so, he didn't dare to ask. The Prime Minister just nodded and returned to the kingdom to meet the King.
"How about my new clothes?" Asked the king.
"The dress is very beautiful, my lord, the king can see it himself at the tailor's shop because the king is a wise man." The Prime Minister replied nervously.
Because he was very curious about what his new clothes were like, the King immediately met the tailor. They said the same thing that the previous Prime Minister said. The king was confused, he couldn't see anything. He asked the Prime Minister's opinion, which was replied with a nod of his head and he said that the dress was very beautiful.
"My lord, are you willing to wear these new clothes?" Asked the tailor man.
The king immediately took off his clothes at that time, and put on his new clothes. The king looked at himself in the mirror, however, he did not see his new clothes at all. In order not to be considered unwise by others, the King pretended to believe that the clothes were on his body.
The next day, on the birthday of the Kingdom, the King was ready with his new clothes, though not visible. However, the King was very happy and looked confident. The king was getting ready to start marching around the kingdom. The people were shocked by the King's appearance this time. The king who used to wear beautiful and new clothes, but now looks different. However, they did not dare to say anything.
With a sense of pride, the King continued to wave to the people. In the middle of the parade, the King heard a little boy ask his parents.
"Mother, why is the king not wearing clothes?"
Hearing this child, the King was very surprised and embarrassed, he immediately looked at his body.
He also just realized that he was not wearing clothes.
From the story above, we can see how a leader who prioritizes personal " image" cannot see the truth of reality so he ignores things that will have a negative impact on his self-image and also his organization in the future. The ego covers a number of realities on the ground. As a result, a number of problems that occur are simply ignored, so that even opportunities for improvement cannot be exploited.
