You said to your friend that you like cakes so your friend give you one. You said to your friend that the cake is too sweet and stop eating the cake. your friend got misunderstanding and thought that you didn't like the cake. that's one example of a misunderstanding. when you say the cake is too sweet, but she conclude that you didn't like the cake.

now, why did she think that you didn't like the cake even though you only say that the cake was too sweet doesn't mean you didn't like the cake right? I think it's because she hopes you like the cake and say "I like the cake" but you didn't, instead of saying it, you said that the cake is too sweet. and most likely she will felt guilty. that's where the negative feelings come from. on the other sides, she also confused because you said that you like cakes but now you didn't like it (the cake is too sweet) she only cares about her POV but didn't ask more about your POV.
