Active voice: The Sparush delegate took the next step.

2. Passive voice: All the barren land has been made fertile.

Active voice: They have made all the barren land fertile.

3. Passive voice: English is spoken throughout the world.

Active voice: People speak English throughout the world.

4. Active voice: Whom are you talking about?

Passive voice: Who is being talked about?

5. Active voice: Her success surprised us.

Passive voice: We were surprised by her success.

Explication

Voicedalamgrammaradalah istilah yang digunakan untuk menentukan hubungan antara aksi(verb) dan subyek/obyek kalimat.

Dalam tata bahasa Inggris, dikenal dua (2) jenis voice, yaitu:

1. Active voice → subyek kalimat adalah pelaku aksi atau disebut juga sebagai agent. Contoh: John eats the apple.
2. Passive voice → subyek kalimat adalah penerima aksi atau disebut juga sebagai patient/recipient. Contoh: The apple is eaten by John.

Konstruksi active voice adalah:

• Agent + Verb + Patient/recipient

Coba kita analisa kalimat aktif berikut

John eats the apple / John memakan apel.

• John = agent karena John adalah pelaku aksi (makan)
• eats = verb, aksi yang dilakukan agent (dalam present)
• the apple = patientkarena apel adalah yang menerima aksi yang dilakukanagent

Konstruksi passive voice adalah:

• Patient + conjugated Be + past participleofverb (v₃) + (by agent)

Passive voice dari "John eats an apple" adalah "the apple is eaten by John".

• the apple = patient
• is = conjugated be in present
• eaten = past participle of the verb eat
• John = agent
