The textabove is Narrative Text. Narrative text is a text that tells a fiction orimaginary story. The purpose of this text is to amuse or entertain reader, andusually it also tells a moral value through its story. There are many kinds ofnarrative text, such as :

-     Fable (fabel) : animal story, all the charactersare animal. Example : The Mouse Deer and The Crocodile

-     Fairytale (Dongeng) : a children’s story aboutmagical and imaginary beings and lands. Example : Cinderella, Snow White

-     Legend (Legenda) : A story about the history of aplace. Example : The Story of Lake Toba, Sangkuriang.

-     Folktale (Cerita Rakyat) : a story originating inpopular culture, typically passed on by word of mouth. Example : Malin Kundang,Lutung Kasarung.

Thestructure of narrative text are below :

1.    Orientation

In the orientation, the writer introduces thecharacter, place and time of the story. It usually opens with these kind ofphrase : A long time ago, Once upon a time, One day.

2.   Complication

In the complication, the writer develops the problemof the story. It divide into three parts :

-     Crisis                :  where the problem of the story is introduced

-     Rising crisis      :where the problem of the story start to get bigger

-     Climax              :the top of the problem, where the problem become very complicating for the maincharacter  

3.   Resolution

Resolution is where the problem of the story issolved. The ending can  be a happy or sadending.

4.   Coda

Coda is the moral value of the story. This is optional, so itis up to the writer whether she/he want to add the moral value of the story ornot.

          Narrativetext uses Simple Past Tense. As we know that Simple Past Tense is used toexplain an event that happens in the past. Here are the formulas of Simple PastTense :

A.   VerbalSentence

a.   Crisis               :the crisis begins from the second paragraph to the fourth paragraph. It beginswith Purbararang that did not want Purbasari to be the queen of the kingdom soshe asked a witch to put a spell to Purbasari (paragraf 2-4)

b.   Rising Crisis     :the rising crisis begins from the fifth paragraph to the eighth paragraph. Here,Purbasari had to live in the jungle. She met Lutung Kasarung and finally wantedto go back to the Kingdom because she had a plan on her mind. (paragraf 5-8)

c.   Climax              :the climax is in the eight paragraph. Here, Purbararang tried to preventPurbararang to be a queen by comparing some things between Purbasari and her. Thelast comparison was the fiance. Purbararang compared her own fiance withPurbasari’s fiance, Lutung Kasarung. (paragraf 9)

3.    Resolution

The resolutionis in the last paragraph. Here, Lutung Kasarung changed into a handsome manwhich was more handsome than Purbararang’s fiance. And finally, Purbasari couldbe the queen of the Kingdom. (paragraf 10/ paragraf terakhir)
