PAST SIMPLE vs PAST CONTINUOUS

Perintahnya disuruh mengoreksi kalimatnya. Di situ terdapat beberapa kesalahan penerapan tenses.

1. Tatiana ate her lunch when her friend called.

➡ Salah. Tenses yg digunakan seharusnya mengaplikasikan Past Continuous tense untuk menjabarkan 2 kejadian yg berlangsung secara bersamaan. Satu kejadia n sudah mengawali sebelum kejadian kedua muncul. Kejadian yang duluan terjadi biasanya menggunakan "verb-ing."

Koreksinya : Tatiana was eating her lunch when her friend called.

2. At four o'clock this morning, Georgie studied.

➡ Salah. Tenses yg digunakan seharusnya mengaplikasikan past continuous tense.

Koreksinya : at four o'clock this morning, Georgie was studying.

3. Jacky had gone to Spain two years ago.

➡ Salah. Ini seharusnya menerapkan simple past tense untuk menjabarkan kejadian yang sudah lewat di waktu lampau.

Koreksinya : Jacky went to Spain two years ago.

4. When the teacher entering the room, the students were talking.

➡ Salah. Untuk menerapkan pola past continuous tense, kejadian yang menginterupsi, kata kerjanya mengalami konjugasi ke preterite.

Koreksinya : When the teacher entered the room, the students were talking.

5. While Adriane was cleaning the apartment, her brother sleeps.

➡ Salah. Untuk menerapkan pola past continuous tense, kejadian kedua menggunakan kata kerja preterite.

Koreksinya : While Adriane was cleaning the apartment, her brother slept.

Note!

Past continuous ➡ dua kejadian yang berlangsung bersamaan di waktu lampau dengan ditandai konjungsi "when atau while." Kejadian satu menginterupsi kejadian lain yg sudah berlangsung duluan.

Pola :

(+) S+to be(was/were)+Verb.ing+O/C

Past simple ➡ kejadian yg sudah berkakhir, saklek di titik tertentu di waktu lampau.
