EXPLANATION

Adverbial phrase dan adverbial clause adalah sama² berfungsi sebagai keterangan yg menjabarkan kapan, mengapa, di mana atau bagaimana sebuah kejadian muncul.

Secara struktural, format adverbial phrase dan adverbial clause adalah berbeda. Adverbial phrase tidak memiliki subyek dan kata kerja tetapi pada umumnya berupa frasa preposisional, infinitive, intensifier.

Sedangkan, adverbial clause mengandung subordinate conjunction sebagai penghubung klausa induk kalimat.

Ketentuan memendekkan klausa adverbial menjadi frasa adverbial modifikasi :

~ Subyek dalam anak klausa (adverbial clause) haruslah sama dengan subyek klausa induknya. Adverbial clause tidak dapat dipendekkan apabila klausa²nya berbeda subyek.

Contoh :

While I was writing a nice poem, my children played in the park. ❌

▶ Klausanya tidak bisa dipangkas menjadi frasa yang bermakna.
