Mari kita coba menjawab dengan contoh soal nomor 1.

"The magician held the show last week."

Passive voice-nya adalah  "The show was held by the magician last week."

Berikut penjelasannya:

"The magician held the show last week." (active voice)

Kalimat tersebut adalah contoh active voice dalam bentuk Simple Past Tense (Subject + Verb 2 + Object).

Dalam kalimat ini, orang atau benda yang diwakili oleh subjek grammar (yaitu "the magician") telah melakukan tindakan/ aktivitas yang diwakili oleh kata kerja "held" dan disusul object "the show".

Untuk mengubahnya menjadi passive voice, maka kita perlu mengubah subjek "the magician" menjadi orang yang ditindaklanjuti atau dipengaruhi  oleh tindakan yang diwakili oleh kata kerja menjadi objective case dan mengubah "the show" menjadi subject, dengan kata lain kita tukar posisi "the magician" dan "the show" dengan menyusunnya ke dalam bentuk passive voice: Subject + to be + verb 3 + by + objective case

Sehingga menjadi:

"The show + was + hold + by + the magician last week."

Berikut rumus gercep (gerak cepat) untuk mengubah active voice menjadi passive voice sesuai tenses:

b. Simple continuous: to be (are/ am/ is) + being + verb 3 + by

c. Simple past: past to be (were/ was) + verb 3 + by

d. Past continuous: past to be (were/ was) + being + verb 3 + by

e. Present perfect: auxiliary verb (have/ has) + been + verb 3 + by

f. Past perfect: auxiliary verb (had) + been + verb 3 + by

g. Simple future: auxiliary verb (will) + be + verb 3 + by

h. Conditional present: auxiliary verb (would) + be + verb 3 + by

i. Conditional past: auxiliary verb would have + been + verb 3 + by

j. Present infinitive: to + be + verb 3 + by

k. Present participle: being + verb 3 + by

6. The company employs many people.

Ini adalah bentuk Simple Present Tense, maka untuk mengubahnya menjadi passive voice, kita cari di rumus gercep a. Sehingga passive voice-nya menjadi:

Many people are employed by the company.
