the different kinds of data it receives. It performs complex calculations and produces some output which
can also be stored for later retrieval and use. A computer is also called an electronic device or machine
that follows certain specified rules and completes a standard set of functions. Those are:
5 1) creating information; 2) taking data as input from an external resource; 3) processing the data into
something useful; 4) storing all kinds of information and instructions into memory and retrieving them
when required or requested; 4) generating some kind of output.
Every computer is comprised of both hardware and software. The former are all physical parts that
a computer is built from and is what makes a computer is called a computer. They are the physical
10 components that can be touched. They are located on both the outside and the inside of a computer.
These are also parts that perform all the operations and execute instructions. Whereas the latter are
collections of programs that tell the hardware components what to do by giving them the instructions
they need to execute in order to get things done. Programs are a set of instructions in the form of
binary code. They are commands that need to be executed in a sequential, and logical order.
15 Unfortunately, a computer is unable to communicate with the user until it is connected by keyboard and
monitor. The former functions as one input device, whereas the latter functions as one output device.
When we are trying to define what a computer is and how it works, we often use the analogy of human
brain. We can think of our brains which are more advanced and sophisticated computers. They are
capable of much more and are far more complex than computers. Human mental processing and the way
20 we handle information is kind of things similar to how computers do it. Our brains also receive input,
