Here is the possible short story about Mark and the Old Bottle.

On Sunday morning, Mark walked along the cobbled beach nearby his house in Hastings. It was quite cold and windy at that time so nobody was strolling on the beach. Yet, Mark always went there to relax, felt the breeze on the face and watch the sunrise.

Suddenly, he saw an old bottle on the side of the beach. It was a unique one in the shape of pentagon at the bottom. The bottle was dark brown. When he was about to take and throw it away to the sea, he stared at something within. There was a paper in it. So, off he went to the bench nearby and opened the bottle, feeling curious to see what it said in the paper.

'Perhaps, it is a treasure map.', he thought.

It turned out that it was not a map, but something else, something like a recipe, but written in Old English. Yet, there was something which caught his attention, the picture of a pie in it. He then took it home and asked his mom if she knew about any of those words.

To his surprise, Mark's mom, Janet, knew it, though not entirely. She then called her uncle who lives in Newcastle, Seamus. He was a professor of English Language in Northrumbia University.

Apparently, it was a long lost recipe of making Irish pie. Nobody could remember that pie. So, Janet then gave a shot to make such pie, which used potatoes, vegetables and fish as the fillings.

Mark had the opportunity to taste it and he found it rather odd. However, his father, Rory, loved it and remembered that he once tried it when he was a child in Donegal, Ireland.

Janet had an idea to develop the recipe and adjust it with the local preference. She even contacted her friend who works as a chef in London, Naomi, to see if it could be served in the hotel restaurant.

'Janet, this is an unusual pie, where did you get this recipe?', asked Naomi.

'Oh, my son found it in an old bottle by accident. So, do you think it would be sold out there?

'Hmm, not sure, I need to propose it to the restaurant manager first. Can you show me the recipe? Just screen shoot it?'

'Of course.'

After more than a week, Janet did not hear anything from Naomi, nor she could contact her. She was hoping that her friend would offer her a job to work in the hotel. Unfortunately, what happened next was beyond her expectation.

Naomi and her friend came to visit Janet and her family about a month later. Mark was the one who opened the door and he was wondering about a man who was with his mom's friend, someone mysterious with glasses with a scary look. They went in and saw Janet and Rory.

'Janet, Rory, I have to tell you something about that recipe you sent me.', said Naomi.

'Hmm, what about it?', asked Rory.

'Do you still keep it?'

'Well, Mark keeps that. What's wrong?', asked Janet.

'OK, here's my friend, Walter. He's a special agent, like me. Sorry, I have to tell you out of the blue. I work for the government too.'

'Wait, what? What's happening?'

'Look, Janet, that recipe turns out to be a code showing the location of IRA (Irish Republican Army) hidden homebase. We've been looking for it and all the clue we had that the contact was a cook or something. This is a good lead and we thank you for it. Just let me know if you need anything,  just don't tell anyone. It has to remain secret so that it doesn't come out. We believe there is a remaining IRA member here in this city who is planning on something. I don't know what. So, this location could be something to start with for our investigation.'

So, Mark then handed it over that recipe and the old bottle to Naomi for their own safety.
